Leg Traudt votes for Higher Sales Taxes

By a vote of 17-7 the Dutchess County Legislature voted to request a sales tax increase for two years starting December 1, 2011. If approved, the sales tax would remain at 8% rather than dropping to 7.25%. A county may only charge up to a three percent sales tax without asking state permission to increase it. The vote was along party lines with Republicans voting to support the higher tax rate. Among those supporting the tax hike was Legislator Benjamin Traudt who represents Red Hook.
