Wrestlers fall short at state tourney

Red Hook Wrestling couldn’t break through at the 2012 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Tournament held in Albany’s Times Union Center. All three of Red Hook’s grapplers, two juniors and a senior, dropped their opening quarterfinal matches and were overwhelmed in wrestlebacks.

Declan Dwyer-McNulty, wrestling for the Raiders at 113, lost to 4th seeded William Koll in a third minute pin and went on to lose in a 16-1 Technical Fall to Stony Brook High’s Hunter Hulse. Red Hook’s 170 pounder Mike Rauch was beaten in his quarterfinal match, 16-0, by Frewsburg’s Nick Mitchell, but won a tight second elimination match against Ogdensburg’s Andrew Cole before being bounced out by Brad Burns of Hoosick Falls, 8-2.

Ricky Treu, wrestling at 145, dropped his opening match to Clifton’s Jake Demmon and lost a close match to match to Jordan Farnmicola of Locust Valley.
