Bard made 5-of-7 three-pointers over the next six minutes, and Berkeley’s lead was 57-53 with 10 minutes left in the game. The teams traded baskets over the next several minutes, but when Arnstein nailed a three-pointer with 3:38 left, the deficit was two, 69-67.
Berkeley, 12-11, outscored Bard 13-3 from there, earning the victory in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
The winners were led by freshman Dukens Germain (Maplewood, N.J.), who had 25 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman Darryl Robinson (Somerset, N.J.) added 15 points and five rebounds.
The Raptors got 15 points and 16 rebounds from sophomore Siondueh Burnette (Lakeville, Mass.), 13 points from junior Lamar Powell (West Orange, N.J.), 11 from Ben Kane (Rockville, Md.), and 10 from freshman Brandon Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y.).
Men’s Volleyball
Bard Raptors beat Brooklyn in a volley of volleyball The Bard College men’s volleyball team pulled out a five-set victory over Brooklyn College in a non-league game Feb. 16. Set scores for Bard were 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 14-25 and 15-7.
Bard never trailed in the first set, but the second set went down to the wire, with the Bulldogs (2-4) scoring the final two points to take a 26-24 set win to even the match.
The third set was a real nail-biter – it included 10 ties – but Brooklyn held a slight edge down the stretch. The Bulldogs were up 24-21 but produced three hitting errors during a Bard rally, and the Raptors pulled it out, 26-24, to go up 2-1.
The fourth set was not even close. Brooklyn led throughout and won easily, 25-14, to force a fifth and deciding set.
Bard got up 10-4 in the final set and hit .385, taking the match with a 15-7 set victory. The Raptors improved to 2-10 overall.
Brooklyn was led by sophomore David Dimitruk (Philadelphia, Pa.), who had 13 kills and eight digs; and freshman Dukhyun Ko (Seoul, Korea) who had 13 kills and 11 digs. Junior Timothy Hui (St. Paul, Minn.) led Brooklyn with 36 assists. Bard got 10 kills apiece from junior Billy Williams (Livingston, N.J.) and freshmen Kai Bernier-Chen (Kamuela, Hawaii) and Jesse Small (Brookline, Mass.). Junior Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 38 assists and freshman Daniel Gagne (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had 22 digs.
